K... I do believe there is need for reform.
I do believe that consumers should be protected from outrageous things that insurance companies are able to do... deny coverage, etc.
But how is health insurance different than car insurance? Cell phone insurance? k- there are differences...
First... there are similarities... if you go to a auto or life insurance company and you say, hey, I need a policy (to cover my car, life... health) and they say, okay, tell us about your driving (health) and you say, I am a horrible driver, I have gotten in several accidents, I have numerous violations... I am going to cost you a butt-load of money... what are they going to say...?
Forget it. you're not worth covering... you're a liability... you'll only cost us money.
In business.. this it totally legit.
In one way... this argument does apply to health insurance. Fiscally speaking... if you are ill, or have huge preexisting conditions... I understand why a company won't cover you... not saying it's right, or people don't deserve health coverage.. i'm just saying I understand why you would not be able to find coverage, or cheap coverage.
So... to argue for the need for reform... some people can't help being sick... some genetically are predisposed to health issues, heart, diabetes...etc.
However, A LARGE percentage of major diseases which are killing our nation are RELATED to the way in which we live our lives... smoking, drinking, overeating, underexercising... all of these things contribute to, in a BIG way, the prevalance of heart disease, cancer and death in our nation and around the world. So, if by your life choices... you have contributed to elevated blood pressure, heart issues, diabetes, lung problems... etc... they YOU are contributing to your own health liability... and overall cost for your health care... shouldn't it ultimately be up to you to pay for higher premiums, higher deductibles? Wasn't it your choice?
You see where I am at? I think there are things that need to be fixed, but a lot that WE can do,
as INDIVIDUALS.
RESPONSIBLE for our own selves
Our own lives, our health, our family's health...
If we would step up and assume some responsibility, we would be a healthier nation that overall would decrease our cost spent on healthcare.
(and couldn't you see ways in which business could fairly cover this...? At first your coverage would cost a lot... high monthly payments... low overall coverage... if you are really super sick, it could still save you money, right? AS time goes on after paying into a health policy... you think it would cover more, and hopefully cost you less. do you see what I mean? Companies cannot cover you knowing they are going to loose money.... anyway... just working this one out in my head.... don't freak out on me if i'm way off....)
Okay... that being said... the people that do need help the most, the extremely poor (which should already be covered under state health care plans (AHCCCS in AZ... Quest in Hawaii... Medicaide or whatever in CA) right? and the Elderly.. right? There are provisions in place for the worst off to get the most help already....? Right?
(In this statement I do realize that a lot of the very very worst off are not able to get themselves taken care of, fill out the required forms, cut through the BS of the system and get the coverage... my Dr here and I had a talk about it the other day... these people do need more help and here in HI there are advocates at our local clinic who basically do everything for you to get you health insurance if you can just show up with ID... it's federally funded by the way)
Anyway... the things that ERK me the most...
The process in which this thing went down
The blatant LIES that Obama told to get this thing going... specifically his promises of open debate... airing on CSPAN (which did not happen)... no back room dealing... which seemed to overwhelmingly happen... an overtion of proper voting and passing by both the HOUSE and the Senate... (we will just "DEEM" it passed through the house... which is was not)
Only a third of the bill was actually available to the public (900 pages out of almost 3000? - i believe)
I cringe when I hear Senators saying this morning... "once America finds out what's in this bill...." dude! why don't we already know EXACTLY what is in it? Why wasn't it clearly laid out... why does every network have a different interpretation of what the bill means?
It is a "living" document which can be altered as time passes.... this is reminiscent of the stimulus package which all power was given to someone who was appointed by the president and there was not a system of checks and balances established to insure proper use of tax funds... why was hundreds of billions of dollars put in the hands of one man....? who knows...?
It just makes me very nervous that if a bill of this magnitude can be shoved through the back door of the legislative branch... who knows what is included in it... (can you say earmark?) and what can be ADDED to it... oye vey!
Oh... I really didn't like the bullying... (reminds me of how liberals would bully bank owners and branches when they would "discriminate" by not giving mortgages to lower income families... just go and protest and harass and bully until they hand out tons of mortgages to people who cannot afford them... and then no wonder everyone foreclosed on their homes)... the best was Obama going to key Senator's districts and rallying the the constituents in their HOMETOWN... pressuring them to vote in favor of it.... (can't wait until he can do this in unions... get the people that are voting against stuff and go to their homes and bully them)...I just don't like it.
I don't love contention... but I don't really have a problem with honesty and debate... In fact, I am usually too honest, which can lead to contention...
so my thing is....
For the Love-
If we really do need reform, and I do believe there are things that need help in health care
Please... why couldn't we have done it the right way... the full bill disclosed... open fair and balanced coverage over all the debate... all the versions of the bill... Cut out all the unneccesary crap... no added cost and laws... really, no private student loans? what does that have to do with anything?....
Why couldn't there be a bill that provides some protection for consumers and emphasizes, or crap, at least addresses some of the HUGE costs in the system... ie... focus on cutting down a huge source of cost... non-citizens, or illegal immigrants who come to the hospitals and cost millions... but we cannot get them out of hospitals our out of the country to their own country to take over their added costs. Who absorbs all that loss? the hospitals? no wonder hospital bills are outrageous!! Help perhaps add more agencies that advocate for the very poor and elderly and help more of them get the coverage that's available to them....
Do we really need to tax people more? Make more stipulations on businesses that are already struggling...?
Since we are trillions of dollars in debt... and Obama says we all need to tighten our belt... lets go and spend trillions more, that we don't have.
Freaking BRILLIANT plan
Please, if someone wants to explain how this is a money making bill... I'd love to understand it... but really... when was the last time any agency in government MADE more money than it SPENT.... career politicians are not business men.. they do not know how to make money... they only know how to gleem more taxes from some to give to others....all in the name of fairnes
oh... I hope Mitt Romney can somehow get in a position coming up that he can help fiscally and economically turn our country around... or anyone like him... or anyone, anywhere who believe the Constitution was inspired by The Almighty. Cause I do.
eeerrrrr.....
well.... that was ...
frustrating....
(disclaimer: I don't know all about it all.... I learn what I can... draw my conclusions from what I see... go with my gut... which is CHURNING AND TURNING right now... I don't rely on Fox news or CNN or any one source for info.... anyone with good info... please send it my way.... in all my free time... I would LOVE to know more about OBAMACARE)

Amen, sistah.
I didn't know you well in the mission, but this is Brandi (Brewer)Johnson. I agree with you. As a diabetic, this plan is terrifying, and horrible. The reason the higher ups pass things like this is because they don't have to worry about the same hierarchy of health care. They don't have to wait 11 months to see a doctor for a potentially life-threatening illness. Anyways, nice ideas! Your family is beautiful.
i read about the bill and i am having faith that everything will work out. it will make it mandatory for everyone to have health care by 2014. those who are living in poverty will have an exemption. a company cannot refuse you for having pre-existing conditions. i think it is good that some action is finally being taken. it's easy to say to do one thing, but everything is much more complicated than that. i believe it will create more jobs in the healthcare industry. it is sad that every other country seems to take care of its citizens in the healthcare sense. i do agree with you about being proactive about our own health - healthy food is more expensive but then you won't get sick as often and won't have to see the doctor nearly as often. prevention is a good way to stay healthy. anyways, i'm no expert on this either, but it's good to be informed. this is bringing more attention to it, which is a good thing.
AMEN! This if freakin ridiculous! My favorite part is that the Obama administration strong armed these house reps saying that he won't endorse them when they are up for re-election if they don't vote for this bill. And they told them that Obama's presidency depends on this bill. Screw Obama's presidency! What about the American people? Well I got news for you "Yea" democrat reps, chances of you being re-elected are oh so slim. So corrupt!!!! So corrupt!!!! It makes me sick!
I know Leisa...it is so corrupt, the lies and the way they brought it to pass...Nancy Pelosi is the she devil....honestly...she scares me so much.
I would like to add that another huge driver behind all of this are the Pharmacuetical (sp?) companies. Who are the gadianton robbers of our time. Read a little about them & it will make your hair curl. This bill will only do damage our country. (I don't have anything against pharmacuetical (dang how do you spell that?) reps. We have friends that are- and supporting your family is a good thing. But they are satan's foot soldiers.
If Obama really cared about the people & their health he could take some of the trillions he is going to wash away and invest in preventative health care options (like Chiropractic, Acupuncture, going to the gym, educating about food & food prep.) I am just a little bit biased, though. :)
