Beloved Prophet of My Generation


I'm sure everyone knows this, but I wanted to make sure that I shared my feeling... mostly so that I have them recorded somewhere.

Here is what one paper wrote tonight:
"The president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Gordon Bitner Hinckley, died on Sunday at the age of 97 after spending more than a decade as the Mormon faith's leader.

The announcement came late Sunday evening from LDS Church officials. President of the church since 1995, officials say Hinckley died peacefully at approximately 7:00 p.m. at his home from health complications related to his age. According to an official church release, Hinckley was surrounded by his family when he passed away."

Although its such a sad time so see such an amazing Prophet cross the veil, I just think of him being able to be with his sweetheart again; something I know he's looked forward to after his work was done here on earth.

When I was really struggling with my faith and decisions in my life, I went with some friends to the first General Conference in the new conference center in April 2004. I heard President Hinckley speak and I had prayed to know there was a prophet of God on the earth. I remember his closing words of his talk ending that session... He said, "Jesus Christ is my friend." I could feel such a real and powerful witness to me, that this man was truly a Prophet of God and that he did in fact know our Savior as a very close and real friend. I have never doubted that testimony I gained that day. As I served my mission in Florida I was able to share that with people that knew nothing of prophets in our day, and I know they could feel that I knew.

Just wanted to share some pictures of a special man who accomplished so much here for the building of the Kingdom of God on earth.
