William T. Howells

Last Friday night Chris's Grandpa passed away. He went into the hospital a month and a half ago and they discovered a mass in his brain. He decided to have surgery and therapy afterwards and to fight the tumor in his brain. They flew him up to Salt Lake immediately to have the surgery. He did really well and after a week or so they were able to bring him back down to St. George to continue therapy to regain motor function on one of the side of his body. Meanwhile they did scans of the rest of his body to see if it had spread. After the results of one of the scans they stopped the therapy. The mass had already grown back in his brain and was in his face and lymph nodes as well. It was melanoma tumor that they had removed and that had spread to many other places in his body.
Well enough about his sickness... Grandpa, and I'm sure Chris could do him so much more justice... but he was the cutest most funny grandpa I've ever met. He and grandma always sent cards for every occasion and birthday and he said the sweetest things in them. He is the funniest man I've ever met too, so full of life and energy and endless jokes! He was also a very righteous and dedicated man. He joined the church when he married grandma and was sealed to her exactly one year later and never looked back. He did a lot of temple work for his family before him and was a temple worker for a long time. He would always send us names for us to help do the work for them. He left an amazing legacy before and after him.
The graveside service was beautiful and the spirit of it was so strong. There was marines there lined up w/ their guns and the flags flying. He also had someone play the bagpipes, he was really proud of his Irish heritage. I wish I had pictures of how beautiful it was that day, the sun perfectly in the sky, the flags slowly waving in the wind, the service men lined up perfectly still, and the trees above had their fall leaves falling in the wind, catching the light and they floated down towards us. It was so beautiful. It was a beautiful day to honor his beautiful life.

Family we got to see in St. George
